‘Republic of Balochistan’ Calls for Global Observance of August 11 as Balochistan Independence Day

An organization identifying itself as the Republic of Balochistan has announced that it will observe 11 August as Balochistan Independence Day and has appealed to Baloch people around the world to mark the occasion with unity by displaying the Baloch national flag at homes, markets, educational institutions, and other public places.
In a statement released on 3 August, the organization reiterated its political position that Balochistan became independent on 11 August 1947 and argued that its subsequent incorporation into Pakistan in 1948 was against the will of the Baloch people. The statement further called on the international community to recognize what it describes as the sovereignty of Balochistan.
The statement also criticized Pakistan’s domestic and regional policies, alleging that they have contributed to instability, conflict, and security challenges across South Asia and beyond. It referred to historical events, including the accession of the former State of Kalat, the 1971 Bangladesh conflict, Pakistan’s nuclear tests in Chagai, and the post-9/11 period, presenting these as part of its broader political argument.
The organization urged supporters worldwide to commemorate the day peacefully and to preserve what it described as Balochistan’s historical identity for future generations.
Background: The political status of Balochistan remains internationally recognized as part of Pakistan. While Baloch nationalist groups advocate for independence and commemorate 11 August as Balochistan’s Independence Day, no member state of the United Nations has formally recognized the self-declared Republic of Balochistan.
