ICFA begins FPO meet in Karnal

Karnal – ICFA conducted FPOs-Industry Partnership Summit in Karnal today. Dr MJ Khan, Chairman, Indian Chamber of Food & Agriculture welcomed the dignitaries, FPO heads and other participants and stressed upon the objectives of organizing 20 FPO summits across India.

“There is an immediate need for industries and FPOs to work collaboratively for better efficacy and results. The government has set a goal to build 14000 FPOs out of which 10,000 have been already accomplished and approximately 1000 have been built in Haryana,”. He emphasized upon analysing business models of successful FPOs so that other FPOs can follow similar models. He recommended ease of investments, market linkages, capacity building among other measures.

Smt Deepa Guha, CGM, NABARD, mentioned that FPOs of Haryana which are coming under NABARD are of category A & B and they are being supervised properly . She further discussed the role of NABARD for FPOs. She further highlighted a few FPOs who are doing exemplary work.

Dr Gurbachan Singh, Chairman – GSFRED & Former Chairman – ASRB mentioned that FPOs are the solution for smallholder farmers and can lead to better profits. He further emphasized upon integrated nutrient management as a potential solution for better income

Dr SK Samwal, Joint Director, CSSRI, Karnal spoke about the initiatives of institute in combating salinity problems in region of Haryana and other states

Dr Arjun Singh Saini, DG, Hort, Haryana, who was the Chief Guest of the event spoke about long journey of Haryana. He further added that sustaining FPOs would be crucial to make it a profitable business.

The event aims to facilitate market linkages, inputs and technology deliveries, produce sourcing, financing, agro processing and export through farmer-industry institutional partnerships. ICFA is an apex think tank for addressing policy issues concerning farmers, food and agro industries. ICFA serves as a global platform for trade facilitation, partnerships, technology, investments and agribusiness services.
