Bengaluru-based Advocate Suraj Thomas Sends Letter to Civic Body – Open Garbage Autos Cause Public Discomfort

Amid the promises of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission), senior advocate Suraj Thomas from Bengaluru has written a formal letter to Bangalore Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) expressing concern over the city’s open garbage collection autos.
In his letter, he highlighted how uncovered autos drop waste onto roads, vehicles, and even pedestrians, creating not just a hygiene issue but also severe public inconvenience.
Advocate Suraj also shared his observations from Barcelona, Spain, where garbage is collected at night using fully covered vehicles, leaving no mess behind on the streets. He pointed out that in comparison, India’s current system presents a poor image of a developing nation.
He has urged the authorities to make it mandatory for all garbage-collecting vehicles to be covered with metal plates or protective sheets to prevent spillage and ensure a cleaner, more citizen-friendly environment.
