ANNUAL PRESS MEET 2024
◾On December 1, 2024, the BSF will celebrate its 60th Raising Day. Established on 1st December 1965, the BSF plays a crucial role in safeguarding India’s borders with Pakistan & Bangladesh and ensuring internal peace.
On the occasion of the BSF Raising Day, we remember the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of the bordermen, many of whom have been honoured with prestigious gallantry awards for their bravery, including the Maha Vir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Shaurya Chakra besides President Police Medal & Police Medal for Gallantry.
◾ BSF Guwahati Frontier, since its inception in Oct’ 2011, has been assigned to guard a very challenging and complex Indo-BD Border in states of West Bengal and Assam with an area of responsibility of 509 Km along Bangladesh, including 91.726 Km long riverine borders & Charlands. To secure the assigned International Border on Indo – Bangladesh border, 11 BSF Bns are deployed under 03 Sectors including a Water Wing.
◾The topographical complexities of the border gets further aggravated as the population lives in close proximity on both sides of the border and has ethnic & cultural similarities posing serious challenges to troops on ground. The socio–religio–politic dynamics of bordering districts of WB and Assam also differs from each other resulting in entirely different security scenarios. The following bordering districts fall under AOR of Guwahati Frontier:-
(a) West Bengal – Distt Cooch Behar
(b) Assam – Distt Dhubri and South Salmara Mankachar
◾Guwahati Frontier, Border Security Force has distinguished itself in accomplishing each and every task assigned to it over the years. It has always displayed the highest standards of professionalism in guarding Indo-Bangladesh borders despite the terrain and demographic challenges as well as in internal security and natural disaster situations. Due to sheer professionalism and hard work, Guwahati Ftr has earned a rightful place in matters connected with the security and sanctity of the International Border.
Operational achievements of the Frontier during current year.
◾During current year, dedicated Seema Praharis of Guwahati Frontier have effectively managed to apprehend large numbers of smugglers/miscreants on the borders and remained committed to maintain a secure environment on the border.
◾During the last one year (period between 1st Jan’ 2024 to 29 Nov’ 2024), total seizure worth Rs. 12.7 Crores (approx.), consisting of Cattle Heads, Phensedyl, Gold, Yaba Tablets, Ganja, others Contraband items etc have been seized and rescued 6088 cattle heads from smugglers in the AOR of Guwahati Frontier :-

◾AMIDST VOLATILE SITUATION IN BANGLADESH, BSF MANAGES NEW BORDER CHALLENGE IN COOCHBEHAR DISTRICT (WB) WITH PROFESSIONALISM.
On 09 Aug 2024, Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) successfully addressed a significant and different kind of challenge on India-Bangladesh border in Coochbehar District, West Bengal. Approximately 1,000 personnels, reportedly Bangladeshi nationals, approached the International Border, seeking refuge in India due to fear of atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh.
Faced with the delicate task of managing humanitarian concerns while ensuring border security, the BSF demonstrated high degree of professionalism, with its officers and men swiftly responding to the situation & management professionally in coordination with civil administration.
Initiatives Taken by The Frontier in Creating Sense of Security Among Border Population
◾Guwahati Frontier is maintaining professional relations with its counterpart i.e. Border Guard Bangladesh and both the Forces are continuously making best efforts to further improve the bilateral relations through mutual cooperation, and maintain peaceful situation in the border areas. Many contentious issues on the border have been resolved.
Two Inspector General Level Talks (Border Coordination Conference) were organized in June & July 2024 respectively to discuss the matters related to border management and mutual interests in which we have received a very positive response from our counterpart Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Bangladesh.
Improving working relations between the Two Border Guarding Forces.
Day and night SCPs (Simultaneous Coordinated Patrols) are being carried out by Border Security Force and Border Guarding Bangladesh (BGB) to control smuggling & trans-border crime and to maintain peace and tranquillity along the International Border.
Improved Relationship with Border Guards Bangladesh through various Confidence Building Measures.
Providing Safe and Progressive environment on International Border
◾ Apart from maintaining the sanctity of the Indo-Bangladesh Border, BSF Guwahati Frontier is also actively engaged in helping the border population through various measures.
Civic Action Programme
Taking forward this spirit of the elite force, numerous Civic Action Programs and Medical Camps in all the under command Sectors and Units were organized.
Counselling and Coaching to Youth Living in Border Areas
Pre recruitment training for youths of bordering area under Frontier Guwahati were conducted to join armed forces. Free coaching for written exam, physical training, along with study material was provided to youths.
Besides, in the situations of medical emergencies and natural calamities,
BSF has been the First Responder for the Border Population.
◾ Observance of various events of national importance
Guwahati Frontier has been in the front line in organizing various relevant and force level events.
Celebrated Republic Day on 26 Jan 2024
Anti-Terrorism Day. On 21 May 2024 at Frontier Headquarter Patgaon, Guwahati as well as Sector Headquarters and Bns under Guwahati Frontier and reiterated that their commitment to fight against terror activities in countries.
10th International Yoga Day. The day was observed by Guwahati Frontier as well as under command Units up to border out post level on 21 June 2024 with enthusiasm. The theme for this year’s International Yoga Day was “Yoga at Home, Yoga with Family”.
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26 June 2024
International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking was observed on 26 June 2024 at Frontier HQ Guwahati and under commander Sector/Units upto BOP level.
Celebration of Independence Day on 15 Aug 2024.
Police Commemoration Day. The day was observed on 21 Oct 2024, at Frontier Headquarter BSF, Patgaon and in Unit/Sectors under Guwahati Frontier. On this occasion, tributes were paid to all those Central Armed Forces and Police brave hearts who sacrificed their lives on the line of duty.
Vigilance Awareness Week. A week-long Vigilance Awareness Week was observed w.e.f 28 Oct’ to 03 Nov’ 2024 to spread awareness amongst the force personnel to remain vigilant and to reinforce the values of honesty in profession.
◾. The last one year has seen the border become more secure and peaceful due to untiring efforts of Bordermen and their efforts have been applauded by people from all walks of life. Apart from securing the Borders, BSF has been able to win the hearts of Border population through its humane approach.
◾Within the organization, Guwahati Frontier has always endeavored to provide a healthy and conducive environment to its own troops, their families and wards. The welfare of troops and families as well as retirees have been given due importance and their problem are being addressed promptly.
