Kunki Choudhury, the candidate of the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 from the Guwahati Assembly constituency Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) , one of the regional political parties of Assam, and the opposition alliance, has received unexpected support in the electoral field. While Gorkha and Bengali organizations openly supported her candidature, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s husband also opened support her contest. This support can bring a new era in regional politics. Recently, representatives of well-known Gorkha and Bengali outfits from Assam formally extended their support to Kunki Choudhury. “Kunki Choudhury is a symbol of Assam’s diverse culture. They are sensitive to the issues of Gorkha and Bengali communities. The organisations appealed to the voters to elect the AJP candidate. Soon after, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s husband released a video message on social media. He said, “I fully support Kunki Choudhury. They are dedicated to the development of central Guwahati. The statement caused a sensation in political circles. AJP leaders believe that this support will challenge the opposition parties. Kunki said, “This support is a big responsibility for me. I will pay special attention to flood management, education, health and employment. I will ensure the identity of the Gorkha brothers and the cultural security of the Bengali community. She said that the AJP will protect the identity of Assam. Voters in the area also showed enthusiasm. A local Gorkha leader said, “Kunki ji will be our voice. ” Similarly, the president of the Bengali outfit expressed confidence that this support would change the election results. AJP state president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, “Kunki Choudhury’s popularity is increasing. Our goal is to make central Guwahati a hub of development. Party workers are intensifying their door-to-door campaigning. Election experts say that these supports will strengthen the AJP. Opposition parties have become alert.
